The Garden Project Documentary
The Garden Project Documentary was filmed in May 2018 during the first day of planting of the annual crops in the Maples Collegiate school-based gardens. The coordinating staff and students discuss the development of the gardens and the plans for food growth and development. The 2018 growing season saw the use of the newly constructed raised garden boxes that were built during the Fall and Winter of 2017.
The Garden Project was based on a community shared agricultural model similar to the gardens present at Amber Trails Community School.

Project Timeline
Spring 2017
During the spring of 2017, the outer gardens were dug and planted for the first time. Students prepared the gardens and planted a vegetable crop for harvest. The location of the outer garden plots were selected for accessibility by both the students and the community. Crops Planted

Winter 2017
Construction of three large cedar boxes began for the purpose of creating large above ground gardens. The garden boxes were designed for accessibility. Raising the gardens off the ground will provide opportunity for students and community members with limited mobility a way to access the main garden. |

Spring 2018
Students and staff work to open the gardens for the upcoming growing season. The newly constructed garden boxes are put into use after they are maneuvered into position and prepared for the planting of crops. The inner gardens are also prepared and planted with an assortment of crops. The crops from both gardens were harvested in late summer and in early fall of 2018. |
